How the FP-C exam is structured

The Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C), from the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC), is a computer-based exam built directly from IBSC's own published exam blueprint.

A public blueprint, not a mystery test

IBSC publishes the domain breakdown for the FP-C candidate handbook, listing the clinical categories the exam draws from and roughly how much weight each one carries. That blueprint is exactly what a well-built practice bank should be tagged against, so the mix of topics you see in practice matches the mix you will actually see on test day.

Pilot questions are part of every form

Like most large certification exams, the FP-C includes a number of unscored pilot questions mixed in with the scored ones, used to evaluate new items for future versions of the exam. They look identical to scored questions while you are testing, so the only reasonable strategy is to treat every question as if it counts.

Built for transport, not just bedside, medicine

FP-C content leans heavily on the parts of critical-care transport that a floor or ED role does not usually test: flight physiology, altitude effects on patients and equipment, and the logistics of managing a critical patient in a moving aircraft or ground unit with a fixed set of resources. Study time that stays purely in general critical-care review will miss a real share of the exam.

Recertification is ongoing, not a one-time event

FP-C certification runs on a renewal cycle through continuing education or a retest, so the underlying content outline is worth revisiting periodically even after you pass, not just during initial prep.

How to actually prepare

Practicing against the real domain weighting, not a generic paramedic quiz, is what makes prep time count. Try a free set of FP-C practice questions, and pay close attention to the flight-physiology and transport-logistics items specifically, since they are the part most likely to be new material.
